The Return of Pearl

She was tough in "The Landlord," but now she's out for blood in "Good Cop, Baby Cop:"

Hank Kingsley, Ballplaya

Is there much better than a weekend of watching "Best of Larry Sanders?"

Subtle Campaigning: #404

Two years ago, I worked on a documentary series about a New York tabloid newspaper. It was easily the hardest I've ever worked in my life, and it's probably the best thing I've worked on (and easily the one thing I've worked on that critics really liked!)

While the network (hint: a word people yell to applaud a performer) liked it, they didn't make a major push behind it as they did with their other shows. Our little show didn't fit in with everything else on their network. So they buried us and quietly burned off our little show. It was disappointing, but they promised, when it comes time for award season, we'll push it just as we would any of our other, more successful shows. And let's face it, if you don't get ratings on a good show and you know it's not coming back, your only hope is to get some Emmy votes - a validation that your work is good despite the fact that no one watched it.

For those who don't know, over the last few months, networks have sent out their Emmy screener DVD's to begin campaigning for votes. A little-seen show like this can truly benefit from a screener DVD. So when I got the "For Your Consideration" package from the network that aired this little show, I was, once again, disappointed that the network had decided to bury us again: no DVD. Nothing. Promise broken. Bummer.

But today, I filled out my ballot for nominations, and I was pleasantly surprised to find our little show. And some of the disappointment came rushing back, knowing that people will see the name of the show and think, "What the hell was this?" or just skip over it completely. But as I filled out the scantron bubble for #404 on the ballot, the disappointment washed over as I knew that the show got at least one vote from me...and that I can somewhat subtly campaign for it on my blog to get a couple more votes.

Sad, But True...

Yes world, he might still be sexy, but, start crying...
...Enrique isn't as perfect as you thought he was.

We can only pray it's only a slight flaw, like "I once lost my friend's copy of 'Amorica' in college and didn't replace it," or "I never beat Grand Theft Auto 3," or "My pinky toe isn't made of diamonds." If that's the case, then we might make it through this tough time after all.

(BTW, this was what popped up on yahoo. Seriously, it's the center of the page.)
